Small Deck Fire Caused From Discarded Cigarette

Early Wednesday morning, April 11, at 1:18 am, the Sykesville Freedom District Fire Department was alerted for a deck on fire on Stillwater Court in Eldersburg.

Fire crews arrived to find a single story Cape Cod-style home.

Crews from Engine 124 found the house filled with smoke and a small fire on the deck at the rear of the house, with some fire extending into the home.

Crews from Sykesville and Winfield searched the home for any fire in the attic and walls.

The Fire was contained to the deck and back door of the home. The cause was attributed to improperly discarded smoking materials.

Firefighters cleared the home of smoke, and returned back to service by 2:30 am. No injuries were reported.
