Sykesville Firefighter Kevin Swain continues his recovery from gunshot wounds at the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

Kevin, who is also a live-in paramedic student at the Morningside VFD in Prince Georges County, was shot when he and his crew from Morningside responded to a call for a medical welfare check. Paramedic John Ulmschneider was also shot, and died from his wounds at Medstar Southern Maryland Hospital.

Kevin underwent emergency surgery Friday night, and is showing slow improvement from his four gunshot wounds. On Sunday, after a discussion with family, Sykesville firefighters, in groups of four, were able to visit Kevin in his room. All reports are that he was happy to see his firefighting brothers and sisters from his hometown.

Kevin and his family are grateful for the prayers and support of the community at large. His message to all? "I'm alright." He remains in good spirits and is looking forward to his recovery and "getting back on the engine."
