Motorcyclist Critically Injured In Crash With Pickup

An unidentified motorcyclist suffered severe, life-threatening injuries on Friday (6/17) when his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck on Londontown Boulevard in Eldersburg.
Sykesville fire and EMS units received the call shortly after 1:00 pm. Chief Ed Ruch, Jr., aboard Rescue Squad 12, reported a working rescue upon arrival, immediately requesting Maryland State Police aviation.
The motorcyclist struck the bed portion of the pickup, as the truck was making a left turn into the Safeway shopping center from Londontown Boulevard. The motorcyclist was thrown from his bike and became trapped between the truck's tire and the pickup bed.
Sykesville firefighters used hydraulic spreaders and a "Ram" tool to spread the wheel well to gain access to the patient. He was quickly freed and placed in the care of Paramedic 128's crew. He was transported to

A closer look at the use of the spreaders, commonly called the Jaws of Life, and the ram tool, used to spread the wheel well to gain access to and free the patient.
Paramedic 128's crew treated the motorcyclist initially, transferring him to MSP Trooper 2. He was flown to Shock Trauma in very critical condition.
