Large Mulch Pile Fire

On Sunday afternoon Sykesville Fire Units responded to the 7800 Block of Kabik Court in Woodbine for a reported mulch pile on fire. First arriving Engine 123 reported a 200' X 200' mulch pile on fire.

Crews completed a scene size up and made the determination that several tankers where needed to assisted with controlling the fire. Tankers from Howard and Carroll County responded to the scene and supplied water to to a folding tank which was being pumped by Engine 123. The water was than pumped to Tower 12 and the fire was suppressed.

Units operated on the scene for several hours and developed a plan with the owners on fully extinguishing the fire. At this point the fire department determined that most of the fire was out and to further extinguish the fire heavy equipment was going to be used to dig the pile out to fully extinguish the fire.
