One person was killed in a serious crash on Route 26 near Oakland Mills Road, Saturday October 27.
Sykesville EMS and fire crews were alerted at 1:12 pm for the crash. Paramedic 129 was on the road and picked up the call. They arrived a short time later to find a pickup truck and motorcycle in the roadway with one victim lying on the side of the road.
A Maryland State Police medevac helicopter was immediately requested as EMS crews began to assess the patient on the ground. But as Trooper 3 was approaching the scene, the male patient went into trauma cardiac arrest, and the decision was made to cancel the helicopter and transport the victim to nearby Northwest Hospital for stabilization. The patient, however, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Meanwhile, the male driver of the pickup truck began to complain of chest pains. Sykesville Paramedic 129 was requested to respond to the scene. That man was also taken to Northwest Hospital for treatment. His condition is unavailable.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team was summoned to the scene, and troopers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Our thoughts and best wishes go to those injured in the crash, and to their families.
