Death of Friend/Firefighter Steven Dunn

The Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department with deep sorrow announces the death of Firefighter/Board of Director, friend, and comrade Steven Dunn.

Obituary:
Steven Patrick Dunn, 47, of Sykesville, died unexpectedly Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, at home. Born Oct. 26, 1962, in Baltimore, he was the son of Joan Zipprian Dunn, of Randallstown, and the late Richard O'H Dunn, who died in 1991. He was the husband of Jan C. Mayes Dunn, his wife of 18 years. He was a volunteer firefighter for most of his life. He began as a junior firefighter at Liberty Road volunteer fire company and later was an emergency medical technician and volunteer firefighter at Sykesville-Freedom District fire company. He was a school bus driver for Howard County Public Schools. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Sykesville. He enjoyed spending time with his family, his bulldogs Briar and Bruce, and his friends. Surviving, in addition to his mother and wife, are a stepson, Jay Turley, of Sykesville; a sister, Katherine Dunn, of Owings Mills; brother and sister-in-law Michael O. and Claudine M. Dunn, of Taneytown; a mother-in-law, Mary Mayes, of South Charleston, W.Va.; and nephew and niece Timothy and Kayla Dunn, both of Taneytown. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, where the Sykesville-Freedom District fire company will hold a service at 7:30 p.m. Monday. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Community, 915 Liberty Road, Eldersburg, with his pastor, the Rev. Roland "Bud" Brown, officiating. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Sykesville-Freedom District fire department, P.O. Box 275, Sykesville, MD 21784.
