The Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department made quick work of a basement fire at a Sykesville home, Tuesday afternoon, February 23.
Firefighters were dispatched to the home in the 4300 block of Spout Hill Rd. at approximately 1:30pm for an "investigation" of smoke in the house. E124 was first to arrive and reported heavy smoke from the rear of the house. Upon further investigation it was discovered that the basement of the house was well involved and was threatening to move to the upstairs.
Crews advanced hose into the structure and quickly knocked down the fire, confining the flames to the basement. There was smoke and fire damage in the entire basement and heavy smoke conditions in the rest of the home.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal's office says the fire was started by water pipes being soldered in the home's basement.
