| Sykesville fire crews assisted Howard County units at a building fire in a three story apartment complex near Ellicott City, Monday evening, August 7.
Ladder 12, Engine 123, and Squad 12 were already in Howard County assisting West Friendship crews on a house fire when they were dispatched to the 2100 block of Ganton Green.
Sykesville units were ordered to a staging area on arrival to await instructions from the Howard County Incident Commander. Command ordered the Station 12 units to the fireground, where they controlled utilities, and performed extensive overhaul on the roof, along with Howard County Truck Companies 3 and 7, and Baltimore County Truck 18.
The fire was believed to have originated in the attic space above the apartments, and was contained by interior fire attack from Howard County Stations 8 and 2.
When roof operations were completed, Sykesville units assisted Howard County units with clean-up, and then cleared after operating on the scene for approximately two hours.
Due to the outstanding performance of all units operating on the Box Assignment, damage was contained primarily to the attic area, and all residents of the apartment complex were able to escape safely. No firefighters were injured. |
