| A two vehicle collision on Liberty Road near St. Stephen's Church sent five people to hospitals on Thursday, August 17, 2006.
The head-on accident was reported at 12:20 pm. Arriving Sykesville fire and EMS units found a small pickup truck which had collided with a passenger car. The driver of the car was out and walking around, but three other patients were still in the car. The patient in the front passenger seat was also trapped in the wreckage. The driver and sole occupant of the pickup truck was still in his vehicle.
Incident Commander Steve Pickett quickly called for additional medic units due to the number of patients involved. A second unit from Sykesville was dispatched, along with crews from Winfield, Liberty Road and Randallstown. Helicopters were requested to the scene as well, bringing MSP Troopers 8 and 1; and U.S. Park Police Eagle 1, which was later cancelled.
Sykesville crews quickly extricated the non-trapped patients from the backseat of the car, then went to work on freeing the patient in the front passenger seat. The driver of the truck was also extricated.
Medic crews quickly packaged their patients for transport. Three were taken to Shock Trauma via Troopers 8 and 1; while two others were taken to Sinai via Sykesville Medics 128 and 129.
Liberty Road was closed for several hours for accident investigation and reconstruction by the Maryland State Police.
