On Sunday September 17, 2006 the Lisbon Volunteer Fire Company in Howard County suffered the tragic loss of one of its members on active military duty in Iraq.

Army Sergeant David J. "Joey" Davis was killed outside of Baghdad when an IED exploded next to the vehicle he was riding in. He was 32 years old.

Sergeant Davis was a part of the Fourth Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment, 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team which was deployed in August of 2005.

Sergeant Davis was scheduled to return to the states on July 31 before he was redirected to Baghdad.

A tribute to Sergeant Davis can be found on Lisbon's website: www.lisbonvfc.org.

The men and women of the Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department send our deepest condolences to Sergeant Davis' family, friends and fellow firefighters. We honor Sergeant Davis for his service to his country, and for the price that he paid for our freedom. We are in a debt that cannot be repaid.
