A crew from the Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department responded to assist Winfield at a barn fire, early Tuesday morning, September 26.

Crews were alerted around 1:00 am for the fire in the 4500 block of Ridge Road (Route 27). Winfield units arrived to find the 150' x 50' barn fully engulfed in flames. A tanker task force was requested to the scene due to the lack of fire hydrants in the area.

The farm owner cut down a 40 foot wide swath of corn to prevent fire extension, and the decision was made to let the fire burn itself out. No one was hurt, and the cause is under investigation.
