Sykesville fire crews, haz mat responders and police responded to the KFC restaurant on Londontown Boulevard in Eldersburg Friday July 20 after two chemical-type devices detonated.

The restaurant was preparing to close shortly after 10 p.m. Friday when two chemical devices commonly known as "soda bottle bombs" went off, one outside the building and one inside a kitchen trash can, said Deputy Chief State Fire Marshal Jason M. Mowbray.

State Police were on the scene when Sykesville fire and EMS crews arrived, and the building had been evacuated. The Carroll County Hazardous Materials team also responded to the scene.

About $2,000 in damage was done to food products in the restaurant that had been contaminated.

There were no injuries, and the investigation into the incident continues.
