Gamber, Sykesville and Winfield firefighters were called for a reported fire in a home on Klees Mill Road, Friday evening, March 11.

The fire was reported around 7:45 pm. Winfield Assistant Fire Chief Tim Legore was in the area on the dispatch and arrived to find smoke coming from the house at 162 Klees Mill Road.

Units from all three companies arrived on the scene a short time later. Gamber and Winfield firefighters went inside and discovered a fire in a bedroom. Sykesville firefighters from Engine 123 were assigned to search the home, while the Squad 12 crew was assigned rapid intervention crew duties.

Everyone was able to escape the home safely, and the fire was contained to the bedroom of origin. An intensive overhaul of the room followed, with all contents removed to the exterior of the house. No one was injured.

Gamber Fire Chief Duane Ludwig reported that the homeowner was using a candle in the bedroom and accidentally sparked the fire. Damage estimates were not available, and the Red Cross provided assistance to the victims.
