Firefighters from Carroll, Baltimore and Howard counties responded with Sykesville fire and EMS units this morning for a reported building fire on the campus of the old Henryton Hospital Center on Marriottsville Road.

The call was received at approximately 10:45 this morning. Arriving units found a vacant building on the property well-involved in fire. Firefighters adopted a defensive strategy and fought the fire from the outside, while also extinguishing some spot brush fires on the property.

There were no injuries. The cause is suspicious.

The abandoned Henryton Hospital complex has been the setting for many fires in recent years. The Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department worked diligently with state officials in working toward the razing of the property to prevent future fires and the possibility of injury or death. At last report, the state of Maryland has awarded a contract for the demolition of the remaining buildings on the property; with the work to begin as soon as this fall.
