On Sunday August 4, 2013, at approximately 11:58 PM Sykesville units along with other mutual aid departments were dispatched on Box 14-05 to the 500 Block of Bear Branch Road for a reported house on fire. Tower 12 and Engine 124 responded on the first alarm assignment. First arriving Chief 14-1 reported smoke showing from a single story wood frame rancher. Chief 14-1 quickly upgraded to a working fire and requested the working fire dispatch. Engine 123 responded on the rapid intervention dispatch. Tower 12 arrived with a crew of six and quickly went to work placing ladders on all exterior side, search and rescue, ventilation, and assisting Engine 142 with fire extinguishment. Crews contained the fire and preformed overhaul.

A State Fire Marshal was called to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.

Crews operated on the scene for approximately three hours before returning to service.

Medic 17 from Mt. Airy and Engine 31 from Howard County filled in until the return of the Sykesville units.
