At 5:33 pm Carroll County 911 Center Dispatched Box Alarm 10-5 for a house fire in the 1200 Blk of Coe Drive in New Windsor. Shortly after the Dispatch Chief 10-1 (B. Welker) arrived on scene with smoke showing from a two story single family dwelling, Chief 10-1 had set up command. Once the first arriving engine arrived on scene they stretched attack lines to the structure to begin interior firefighting.

At 5:40pm Tower 12 was dispatched to assisted on the working fire. Once on the scene a message was relayed over the radio that there was a firefighter down next to engine 102. During the firefight a hose line burst on the exterior of the structure. The pressurized hose line struck the driver of Engine 102 in the head knocking him to the ground unconscious. Medical personnel quickly moved in to treat the downed firefighter and requested Maryland State Police Aviation to transport the patient to Shock Trauma.

Tower 12's crew quickly grabbed their equipment and quickly headed back the drive way and assisted crews on the interior control the fire. The fire continued to grow as crews worked to cut it off from running the concealed areas of the house. Command requested an evacuation of the structure to regroup and knock the fire down from the exterior as the fire began to burn through the roof of the house. With the fire knocked down, crews reentered the structure and extinguished the remaining hot spots. The fire was placed under control in 90 minutes.

The fire remains under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office and the two displaced occupants received the assistance of the American Red Cross.

The injured New Windsor Firefighter was treated at Shock Trauma and released from their facility the day following the incident.
