Passing of Cormac "Mac" Murray

By Firefighter/EMT Bill Flanagan
March 29, 2014

It is with profound and deep regret, that the Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department announces the loss of 'Honorary Member' Cormac Michael "Mac" Murray on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, after a lengthy illness.

Born in September 10, 2004, Mac was the son of Brian and Aimee Murray, and brother to Collin. Mac was diagnosed with Metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD) on Friday, August 3 when he was 34 months old. MLD is a rare white matter disorder of the brain for which there is no cure and no treatment. The Sykesville Fire Department made Mac an Honorary member in late 2008 after learning of Mac’s love for fire engines and firefighters. Mac was our youngest member and he will be truly missed. Mac was considered a “Hero” to many residents in the South Carroll area due to his courage and strength throughout his lengthy battle with MLD. Our thoughts and prayers go to the Murray family.
