Early Morning Fire in Sykesville

The Sykesville Fire Department was called out to a report of a structure fire in the 7600 block of Swallow Road in Sykesville, Maryland at 3:53 am on Tuesday, May 27, 2014. Units from Sykesville Station 12, Winfield Station 14, Howard County Station 3, Howard County Station 13, and Howard County Station 2 were on the initial dispatch.

Units from Sykesville arrived shortly after and found heavy fire showing from the roof area of a single family residence. The working fire dispatch call for additional resources was immediately requested. Units from Gamber Station 13, Lineboro Station 7, Howard County Station 4, and Howard County Station 8.

The fire crews were able to save most of the residence with the fire being contained to the attic, master bedroom and rear corner areas of the house. The fire was brought under control at 4:22 am. Extensive overall work was needed to ensure that the fire was completely out. The fire was reported to be fully extinguished at 5:14 am. Crews remained on the scene until 6:10 am to wrap up operations. The cause of the fire and the damage estimate are being investigated by the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office. The Red Cross Disaster Relief Services is assisting the family.
