On the morning of Friday September 26, 2014, Sykesville Fire Units along with Mutual Aid Units responded to the 1000 Block of Harbor Court in Eldersburg for reported possible basement fire. First arriving Engine 123 found nothing evident from the exterior of the house and that the house had been evacuated. Crews were shown to the rear of the house where the basement door was by the homeowner. When crews made entry into the basement they found smoke throughout. Crews went to work looking for where the smoke was coming from. After several minutes of searching the basement the smoke was found coming from a sump pump motor that had burned up.

Crews disconnect the sump pump and removed it from the house. Crews then used a fan to ventilate the basement area of the house.
