On Thursday evening fire and rescue units from the Sykesville Fire Department along with Mutual Aid Departments were alerted for a house fire in the 900 Block of Putman Road in Sykesville.

First arriving Chief 12 reported smoke showing from a two story single family wood frame dwelling and quickly upgraded to a working fire. Chief 12 further reported that everyone was out of the house and accounted for.

Engine 123 and Engine 124 arrived on the scene and quickly went to work pulling and advancing attack lines to the interior of the dwelling. Crews were able to knock down the bulk of fire and check for extension to the second floor and attic area. Squad 12 arrived and assisted with ventilation and ground ladders.

Additional crews from Winfield and Gamber arrived and assisted interior crews with overhaul and securing the utilities. The house suffered fire and smoke damage throughout.

The fire was investigated by the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office and the cause of the fire was unattended cooking.
