On Friday evening Sykesville Fire and Rescue Units along with Mutual Aid Units were dispatched for an Apartment Fire at 6500 East Ridenour Way in Eldersburg.

Chief 12-1 and Sykesville units responded quickly and arrived on the scene to find a three story wood frame building with nothing showing from the exterior. Crews went to work hooking up to a near by fire hydrant and advancing hose lines to the third floor of the apartment building where the fire was reported. Crews found smoke on the second and third floors of the apartment building. The crew from Engine 123 found a fire in the kitchen of a third floor apartment that had been held in check by the sprinkler system.

Additional crews from Sykesville arrived and started evacuating the building occupants to a nearby apartment building. Once the fire was determined to be out and no fire extension was found the buildings sprinkler system was shut down. Crews then went to work with numerous fans to ventilate the smoke from the second and third floors of the apartment building.

Crews remained on the scene for several hours to assist the State Fire Marshal, County Building Inspector, and Red Cross.
