Crews from several departments battled a fire in a vacant house near Winfield, on Friday, February 24.

Sykesville Assistant Fire Chief Dave Barnes was passign through the area of Route 26 and Woodbine Road at approximately 5:55 pm, and discovered the burning building. He immediately reported the fire to the Carroll County 911 center.

Units from Winfield arrived, and under the direction of Lieutenant Zach Schneider, began attacking the fire from the exterior. Firefighters did not enter the structure as it had been abandoned for several years, and its condition was unsafe.

Engine 123 was able to clear the scene by approximately 7:30 pm. The fire is under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshalls office.
