The Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department joins with our brothers and sisters across Maryland and the U.S. in mourning the loss of three Baltimore City firefighters in the line of duty early Monday, January 24.

Baltimore city officials say that the three firefighters died after becoming trapped in a collapse while fighting a fire in a rowhouse on South Stricker Street. A fourth firefighter was also trapped, but quickly removed and transported to the hospital.

The firefighters have been identified as Lt. Paul Butrim, FF/PM Kelsey Sadler and FF/EMT Kenny Lacayo. The fourth firefighter, who is listed in serious condition at Shock Trauma, has been identified as John McMaster.

The men and women of the Sykesville Fire Department stand with our brothers and sisters in Baltimore City during this horrible time, and we offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the fallen, and to the injured firefighter.
