In Memoriam: Past Chief and Life Member Edgar Holman

The members of the Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department are mourning the loss of Past Chief and Life Member, Edgar Holman.

Chief Holman was a longtime dedicated member of the department, joining our ranks January 3, 1963. He completed his first class, University of Maryland Fire Service Extension (now MFRI) Basic Fire Course on May 6, 1964.

He served as Chief of Department in 1977, 1978, 1982 and 1983. He also served in a number of other line officer positions.

Chief Holman was president of the fire department in 1973, and was a longtime member of the department's Board of Directors. He served on the Building Committee responsible for the 2001 additions and renovations to the fire station.

Chief Holman was a retired Senior Dispatcher at the Howard County 911 Center. where he had worked since the first day the county began taking calls in 1978.

Following retirement, Chief Holman moved to Crossville, TN, where he lived with his wife Elaine until his death. She survives.

The men and women of the Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department thank Chief Holman for his years of dedication to the department, and offer our sincere condolences to his family and friends.
