Units from Sykesville joined fire crews from Baltimore County and the surrounding region in tackling a large brush fire in the Soldiers Delight recreation area near Owings Mills, Tuesday, April 4.

When Sykesville units were alerted to assist, responding units could see a heavy smoke column leaving the station. Once arriving, crews assisted in several locations with fire suppression and efforts to contain the flames.

Some 200 firefighters responded to the scene to fight the wildfire, according to Baltimore County fire officials. It is one of the largest such incidents in recent memory.

While Sykesville crews were in Baltimore County, other members staffed the station for other calls. A brush unit from Laytonsville, Montgomery County and a tanker from the Independent Hose Company in Frederick also stood by at Station 12 for the duration of the incident.

A reminder to our residents that, although vegetation is beginning to "green," the dry conditions are conducive to brush and wildfires.
