CCDFEMS Assumes EMS Responsibilities In Carroll County June 8

You may have heard that the new Carroll County Department of Fire and EMS (CCDFEMS) will be taking over emergency medical services in the county, effective June 8, 2023.

What, exactly, does that mean for residents of Sykesville and Eldersburg? It means that the same quality level of pre-hospital care you have enjoyed from the Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department (SFDFD) will continue with CCDFEMS career personnel.

For many years, the SFDFD has employed EMS crews to cover the increasing demands for pre-hospital health care in our area. Some of the funds used to cover payroll have come from the county, while the SFDFD has provided additional funds for additional personnel.

Now that CCDFEMS has been established, the county department will assume responsibility for EMS operations in the county. Locally, crews will be stationed at our firehouse with a career lieutenant also stationed here to oversee daily operations. The career staff will also assist in responding on fire calls in the community.

In short, when you dial 911, you will not see any difference in the response and care you receive, other than the CCDFEMS patches and logos on the providers’ clothing. You deserve nothing less than the best.

The Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department’s volunteers will continue to provide top-notch, quality fire protection and emergency services to the community as we always have. We welcome the partnership with the Carroll County Department of Fire and EMS as we work together to protect the communities we live in and serve.

Thank you for your support. We’re here if you need us.
