At approximately 5:35 PM on Tuesday, June 13, Sykesville volunteers and career staff from the Carroll County Department of Fire and EMS of Maryland were alerted for the crash involving an overturned dump truck at the intersection of Marriottsville and Henryton roads.

Crews immediately responded with Rescue Squad 12, Engines 123 & 124, Duty 12, Chief 12 Chief 12-1 and two medic units. Along with the on duty career staff, 18 volunteers responded on the call. Chief 12 arrived and found the dump truck hauling wood and towing a skid loader off the road and overturned against a large tree. Chief 12 established the command and Captain 12-1 was the rescue group supervisor.

The volunteers and career staff, working together, quickly stabilized the vehicle using rescue struts and chains. They deployed battery powered hydraulic tools to cut a flap in the roof in order to gain access to the driver. He was removed, and placed in the care of EMS. He and a passenger who self-extricated from the truck before the arrival of emergency crews were flown by Maryland State Police - Aviation Command to Shock Trauma for treatment.

Our thanks to crews from Winfield and Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services for their assistance.
