The Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department will be supporting the American Red Cross with a "Sound The Alarm" smoke alarm campaign in the area this spring with two events in the area.

On Saturday, March 16, the Red Cross will canvas the Monroe Avenue area of Eldersburg, to include parts of Marvin Ave, Monroe Ave, Martin Place, Mt Denali Road, Tabetha Drive, Carroll Highlands Drive and Carroll Highlands Court.

The "Sound the Alarm" program organizes volunteers to install working smoke alarms, provide home fire safety education, and help residents create escape plans. The goal of the program is to increase working smoke alarms to reduce home fire fatalities.

The American Red Cross has installed more than 2.7 million smoke alarms nationwide since the inception of the "Sound The Alarm" program, making 1.1 million homes safer (through install, testing, or providing fire safety education). Data shows that the program has saved 2,012 lives from installing a working smoke alarm to only later have a fire resulting in the residents safely escaping.

On Saturday, May 15, the Red Cross will conduct a similar canvas in Sykesville, including parts of Jennifer way, Concord Lane, Bunker Hill Court and Revere Court.
