The Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department juniors took part in the annual Carroll County Juniors Day event at the county training center in Westminster, Saturday, September 28.
In addition to some valuable lessons and training, the juniors competed against other Carroll County fire companies in events such as donning and doffing of fire gear, hose line connections, a bucket brigade, and a good old fashioned battle of the barrel.
Two of the juniors, Shoksana and Jasmina, placed first and second in the donning and doffing of the gear with a time of 28 seconds.
The juniors team also took second place in the bucket brigade event.
The Sykesville Juniors is open to kids ages 12-16, and has been teaching teamwork and leadership skills while orienting them to the fire service for nearly 40 years.
