Just shortly after five this morning members and area residents were awakened by their houses shaking. Shortly after the rattling stopped, the station was alerted for an explosion in the area of White Rock Road and Aster Way. Engine 124 and P-129 responded and was quickly advised by communications that they were on the phone with Maryland Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) and they started that it was an earthquake.

Captain Ludwig and Lieutenant Ruch arrived on the scene and reported nothing evident. After the investigation it was found that there was no explosion and confirmed that the shaking was due to an earthquake.

It's reported that a 3.6 Magnitude earthquake centered in Germantown, Maryland could be felt from Virginia to Pennsylvania. At this time no injuries or damages have been reported.

Units: Engine 124, P-129, Captain 12-1, Lt. 12-4
