January 29, 2022

Saturday morning, 1/29, turned out to be a busy one for Sykesville fire and EMS crews.

Around 10:15, Station 12 and Gamber & Community Fire Company were alerted for a possible fire reported out. Engines 123, 124 Tower 12 and Chief 12-1 responded shortly after dispatch with 11 volunteer personnel.

Crews arrived on scene and found an odor of electrical burning in the house but no smoke or fire. Crews checked the house throughly to verify it was an electrical issue and secured the power to prevent any further issues.

While units were packing up from the Wendy Road call, Carroll County Dispatch alerted Engine 124 and Howard County Ambulance 85 and Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department Medic 149 for a possible pedestrian stuck on Lazy Morning Way. On arrival crews found an injured person down a long snow covered driveway.

Crews called for ATV 12 to assist. Tower 12, coming back from Wendy Road, was also added to the call as well as Chief 12-1 and Rescue Squad 12. Due to the driveway conditions, crews used ropes to assist the injured person up the driveway and into the care of EMS.

The Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department is dependent on its volunteers to remain a viable and vibrant organization. If you want to volunteer for your community and be a part of our team please click the link below and fill out the application.
