| July 8, 2006 - Firefighters from several area companies battled a fire that caused extensive damage to an Eldersburg home, Saturday afternoon.
The fire at 1999 Alfalfa Court was reported at 2:17pm at the Bosnic residence. A teenage boy who was home alone at the time said he was taking a shower when he heard the home's smoke alarms activate. He noticed a glow coming from the garage and quickly closed the door and fled the residence with a family dog.
Firefighters from the Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department arrived to find heavy fire engulfing the two-car garage, and spreading to the attached house. Crews extended hose lines into the house to cut off the flames as they spread into the attic and roof area of the home. A second alarm was quickly requested due to the amount of fire and the heat of the day taking its toll on fire crews.
The fire was controlled within a half hour; and firefighters spent the next two hours extensively overhauling the home to check for fire spread. Extra engine crews with fresh crews were summoned to the scene to assist.
Three firefighters were treated for minor injuries, including a firefighter from Gamber who was transported to Carroll Hospital Center for a back injury.
The fire's origin is believed to be in the garage. The Maryland State Fire Marshal's office is investigating the cause of the blaze.
