Sykesville-Freedom District firefighters were the guests of honor at the Stone Manor Community Fun Fest on Saturday, September 11, 2004.

Mark Wilkinson, president of the Stone Manor Homeowners Association, said the date of the event, 9/11, made it appropriate to remember those lost; and recognize firefighters for their service. A group of young children led the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance and saluted the American flag flying atop Ladder 12 high above the event.

Wilkinson said that the main reason the firefighters were invited was to thank them for their hard work in saving the home of Bill and Sharon Theologus on East Sandcroft Court, March 15, 2004. (see Incident News for details and pictures) The Theologus family has renovated and returned to their home.

The firefighters were warmly received by the community, and even challenged to a friendly volleyball match with residents. No score was kept, much to everyone's relief. And there will be no comment on the quality of play by either team.

Residents also collected donations for the fire department as a way of saying thank you. A sign above the donation box read "Let's say it (thank you) like we mean it!"

The members of the Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department would like to thank the residents of Stone Manor for their hospitality and friendship.
