The Engine Committee has given the final inspection to the new Engine 124 soon to be arriving at the Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department.

Members of the committee traveled to Florida this week to go over the piece with a fine tooth comb to ensure the apparatus was built to exact specifications.

The new engine was built by E-One of Ocala, Florida. It is built on a Cyclone chassis, with 1500 gallons of water aboard and a 1500 gallon-per-minute pump.

The engine features two automatic volume discharges located on the driver and passenger side. The application can be used to dump the entire tank of water into a holding tank in less than a minute.

The engine also features two hydraulic pre-connect lines in a rear compartment that will allow for the placement of a Hurst rescue system. The engine will be able to supplement Rescue Squad 12 on the scene of a major incident, or handle routine door pops on its own if the Squad is not available.

The new engine is equipped with the latest safety equipment and markings, including a highly reflective rear step.

The new engine is due to arrive in Sykesville around January 29. It will be known as Engine 124.

E-One was also the manufacturer of Sykesville's Ladder 12 and Engine 123.
