| No one was hurt in a two alarm fire that damaged a home north of Taylorsville Wednesday evening, March 14.
The fire broke out in a basement apartment of the home on Ridge Road (Route 27) shortly after 7:00 pm. Sykesville's Engine 124 had just finished overhaul at an automobile fire on Monroe Avenue in Eldersburg and picked up the call on the road with six personnel on board.
Arriving Winfield fire units found heavy smoke coming from the building, and reported that it was unclear if anyone was inside the home. An immediate primary search was launched.
Engine 124 arrived on the scene and was directed to assist the search operations on the second floor of the home; but as they were going in, fire was reported on the first floor, and the engine crew used a hoseline to knock the fire down. Once finished, the engine crew returned to its original search assignment. No one was found in the building.
The fire was declared under control around 8:30. Fire damage was limited to the basement and first floor, with smoke, water and heat damage to the second floor. Sykesville's Ladder 12 had also responded to the fire, with its crew assisting in overhaul operations. Ladder 12 also assisted on a second fire call in Winfield's area during this time.
Sykesville fire units were back in service at approximately 10 pm. |
