A small grease fire forced the temporary evacuation of the KFC restaurant in Eldersburg, Saturday June 2.

The call was dispatched around lunchtime, bringing crews from Sykesville, Gamber, Winfield and Liberty Road (Baltimore County) to the scene. A firefighter arrived on the scene first and confirmed that employees had extinguished the fire.

Sykesville and Gamber crews double-checked the restaurant for fire extension and controlled the utilities. The Carroll County Health Department was notified, per procedure. There was no structural damage to the restaurant, which was re-opened a short time after the fire was extinguished.

While the incident was occurring, a vehicle crash occurred in front of the restaurant on Londontown Boulevard. Lieutenant Rob Schombert, the incident commander, released Liberty Road's crew and Sykesville's Paramedic 128 to deal with the crash. Rescue Squad 12 was also dispatched from Sykesville, but there were no injuries reported, and the damage was minor.
