| Late Posting: Late afternoon on November 14, 2008, Medic 129 and Rescue Squad 12 were dispatched for an injured hunter on Arrington Road near Patapsco Valley in Marriottsville. Access to the scene was hindered as the medics and rescuers had to wade through the South Branch Patapsco River feeder creek that parallels Marriottsville Road and hike to the patient's location. Patient access was also restricted as the hunter was still strapped to their hunting stand which was suspended twenty-five feet up a tree. The incident was upgraded to a rescue with assistance requests being sent out for Carroll County's Advanced Technical Rescue Team (ATR) and Sykesville Fire Department's All Terrain Vehicle (ATV)
The ATR team, ATR 30, ATV 12 and Ladder 12 responded to assist with this challenging rescue. Upon arriving, Ladder 12's crew was able to deliver and setup a twenty-eight foot ground ladder. ATR and medic crews were able to assess and stabilize the patient from the raised ladder. ATV 12 was essential by quickly bringing in additional personnel and supplies for this rescue as well as providing scene lighting.
The ATR team members set up the rescue system rigging so that the patient could be safely lifted out and away from the tree stand. The patient was attended to by medic crews and transported to the local hospital. |
