Van Into Woods and Stream after Collision

Sykesville fire and rescue crews responded to a vehicle accident, Friday, September 2, at the intersection of Route 32 and Circle Drive in Eldersburg.

Deputy Fire Chief Ed Ruch, Jr. was the first to arrive on the scene. He reported a two vehicle crash with a van off the roadway and deep into a wooded area with a stream.

Rescue crews had difficulty accessing the patient in the van, as it was loaded full of carpet. The front of the vehicle was inaccessible as it had come to rest against a tree and drainage ditch.

Rescue crews had to remove several rolls of carpet in order to gain access to the patient. He was successfully extricated and treated, along with the driver of the other vehicle. Both were transported to Carroll Hospital Center for evaluation of their injuries.
