In Memoriam: Bethany Shay Green; January 17, 1989 - October 5, 2005

The men and women of the Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department offer their deepest sympathies to the members of the Gamber and Community Fire Department upon the death of associate member Bethany Green.

Green, 16, died Wednesday, October 5, from injuries suffered in a motor vehicle crash near Westminster. She was the daughter of Gamber Fire Department members Ronnie and Chrissy Green; both of whom instilled a love of the fire department in their daughter.

Green was a student at Westminster High School, where she played volleyball and was active in other sports. She served as president of Gamber's junior fire department.

Green was buried Monday, October 10, after funeral services at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Eldersburg. Hundreds of family, friends and firefighters attended the services.

Sadly, Green's death is the second in a month's time to affect Westminster High School. On September 5, Zachary Ondrish was killed and three other students were hurt in a crash near Finksburg.

Station 12 and 13 members work very closely with each other on the fireground, and Beth's loss is a shock to us all. Our thoughts and prayers lie with the Green family, and with our colleagues at Gamber.
