Sykesville fire crews responded to assist the Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department to a barn fire, Tuesday morning, November 15.

Upon arrival in the 2500 block of Gillis Road, firefighters discovered a fully involved barn with a nearby gasoline storage tank and several other farm buildings close by. A second alarm was requested, along with a tanker task force due to the lack of hydrants in the area.

Engine 123 and Ladder 12 responded from Sykesville, and its crews were given the task to set up water supply. Engine 123 drafted from one of the three folding tanks set up at the end of the farm lane. Engine 123 then supplied water back the lane to Engine 101 from New Windsor Fire Department.

The barn and its contents were totally destroyed. There were no injuries.
