Sykesville Assists Gamber On Louisville Road House Fire
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By Public Information Officer Bill Rehkopf
September 9, 2023

Volunteers from the Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department and CCDFEMS career personnel from Station 12 assisted Gamber and Community Fire Company on the working house fire in the 4100 block of Louisville Road, Saturday September 9.

Units were alerted at approximately 4:16 p.m. after Carroll County 911 calltakers received several calls about the fire. Sykesville's Engine 123 was already on the road investigating a report of burning wires and responded immediately. Tower 12 responded shortly thereafter.

Gamber's Chief 13 arrived on the scene a few minutes later and declared a working fire, requesting the Rapid Intervention Dispatch. Rescue Squad 12 responded as a result, along with Medic 127.

Upon arrival, Station 12 crews assisted with fire suppression, checking for fire extension and overhaul. In all, approximately 12 volunteers responded along with the on-duty CCDFEMS career personnel.

The fire was reported under control within about 30 minutes. No one was injured, but a dog was discovered in the basement and received oxygen treatment by medics before being transported by private vehicle to a veterinary facility for observation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal's office.

This incident is just another example of how the South Carroll community is protected by dedicated, trained volunteer personnel alongside county career staff. We are always looking for service-oriented people to join our ranks. We have volunteer positions in fire suppression/rescue, EMS and administrative functions. We'd love to talk with you about becoming part of our family. Click the link below for more information.
