The members of the Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department are saddened to share the passing of our brother and friend, Glenn Whitman. He was a life member and recently became our oldest Living Member in the department. Since joining he has supported the department and the community in multiple ways, driving ambulances and fire engines. He assisted with the dedication of the department when we moved to 6680 Sykesville Road. Most of you might remember Glenn when he was our Bingo Chairman for many years.

He dedicated himself to the community by serving as a lifetime member of the Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department for over 70 years as an ambulance driver and actively participated in their carnivals, Friday night bingos, and other fundraisers. He coached youth sports and received several awards, including the Optimist "Friend of Youth" Award (1978) and the Knights of Columbus "Citizen of the Year" (2001–2002).
