| The members of the Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department are saddened to share the passing of our brother and friend, Wayne Arrington.

Wayne Arrington, 86, of Sykesville, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, January 17, 2026.
He was born on October 15, 1939, to the late Thomas Franklin Arrington and Ruth Mary (Lusk) Arrington. He was the loving husband of Susan C. (Paul) Arrington, his wife of 35 years.
Wayne was born in Baltimore and spent his entire life in Sykesville. He was a graduate of Sykesville High School, Class of 1957. Wayne enjoyed several careers. At a very young age Wayne worked on the family farm and family business as a lineman and contractor for BG&E among others. Wayne graduated from Springfield Hospital 's nursing program as an RN, proceeded to graduate from the Maryland State Police Academy, and worked for the Maryland Toll facility, and finally Verizon, where he retired. Along the way, Wayne volunteered with the Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department, where he was a life member. Wayne loved telling stories of growing up on the Arrington farm, tales of his different jobs, racing cars, playing fast pitch softball, flag football and of course his cats. Mostly, he loved his family and was proud of each one. He was a faithful friend to many and was a longtime member of the Sykesville Parish of Gaither and St. Paul's United Methodist Churches.
Surviving in addition to his wife are son Thomas J. Arrington and wife Eileen of Blanchester, OH, sister Joanne Arrington Wolf of Country Meadows, Leader Heights, PA, grandchildren Patricia Phelps, Bobby Phelps (Liz), Michael Phelps (Kelli), Abby Webb (Anthony), John Luke Arrington (Lauren) and Thomas Arrington (Danielle), eight great-grandchildren, nieces Kimberly Wolf and Stephanie Sauter (Rick) and three great-nephews.
He was predeceased by daughter Dwayne Lee Arrington who died in 1966, infant brother Thomas Arrington, brother-in-law Curtis Wolf and beloved uncle and aunt, Ed and Dorothy Arrington.
A memorial service will be held at 12 PM on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville with his pastors, Rev. Mary Ka Kanahan and Rev. Christopher Guyer officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. Private interment will be in Springfield Cemetery, Sykesville.
